Table of Shewbread
SERIES: MOSES' TABERNACLE. LESSON NO. 4.
ITS POSITION.
Three pieces of furniture are found in the Holy Place:-
(a) Altar of Incense - praise - to Him.
(b) Candlestick - light - to others.
(c) Table of Shewbread - word - to ourselves.
If we are to have a balanced Christian walk, we need all 3 of
these truths in our lives that we might minister to Him, to the
world and to ourselves.
This piece of furniture was not found in the outer court, but
within the Holy Place. The Table of Shewbread was positioned on
the north side of the Tabernacle directly opposite the Golden
Candlestick. Psa.48:2.......... mount Zion on the sides of the
north........
The position that Lucifer desired in his rebellion against God.
Isa.14:13, showing us that today this table is going to be
instrumental in bringing the Church (Zion) into the place that God
has purposed for it.
2. PURPOSE.
In the natural a table is the place of fellowship and communion.
The priests were to eat and have fellowship at this table.
It points to the communion table of the New Testament Church. 1
Cor.10:16.
Wine - was poured out on the floor of the Holy Place at the time
of burnt offering. Num.28:7, again pointing to the Table of the
Lord. Gen.14:18 - it was at the time of bread and wine that
Melchisedek appeared on the scene - a shadow of the eternal
Priesthood of Jesus. At the Table in this day there is to be a
greater revelation of Him. Gen. 18:1-6. Rev.3:20 - the challenge
to the Laodicean Church - an end time message. Luke 11:5,
Psa.23:5.
"Give us day by day our daily bread". Luke, 11:3.
- the duty of the Priest was to minister at the Table twice daily
- a continually fresh experience and revelation of Jesus Christ,
for He is "the bread of life". John 6:48.
3. THE DESIGN. Ex.25:23-30.
V.23"Shittim Wood".
speaks of our humanity, Our lives are to be fashioned so that we
might carry the "Bread of Life" - the Word of God. Jesus was the
Word (bread) made flesh (shittim).
2 Cor.3:1-3 - we are to be "Epistles .... known and read of all
men".
"11/2 cubits the height thereof".
- same height as the Ark of the Covenant, showing that if we are
to attain to the height of the Ark, to "the measure of the stature
of the fullness of Christ", to the full height of the glory of God,
we need to experience all the truth hidden in the Table.
V.24 - "overlay it with pure gold" - Christ's divine nature.
- the root Hebrew word means to "shimmer".Therefore we are to
"shimmer" or shine forth His glory and His nature.
"Pure Gold" - refined - no impurities. Prov.17:3.
In the Outer Court all the furniture was made with Brass, which is
a mixture of metals. But when we come into the Holy Place the
metal used is Gold (a pure metal). Therefore while we remain
Outer Court Christians there can remain mixture in our lives. But
when we enter the Holy Place, mixture is put aside and His nature
shines forth. Isa.60: 17,19.
"A crown of gold".
- twice crowned. Ex.37:11-12.
Jesus was twice crowned -
(a) crown of thorns,
(b) crown of Glory. Heb.2:7, 1 Pet.5:4, 2 Tim.2:12.
A crown for them that love His appearing. 2 Tim.4:7-8, Rev.3: 11.
V.27 "staves".
- our hunger and desire for His Word is to deepen and intensify as
we progress.
We are not to camp around the experience that we've come to.
There are always new depths and realms in the understanding of His
Word.
V.30, "Thou shalt set upon the Table Shewbread".
- 'to shew' means to 'tell forth' or 'declare'.
1 Cor. 11: 26 - "For as often as ye eat this bread .... ye do shew
the Lord's death till He come". Before life comes forth, death
has to be experienced.
The Bread. Lev.24:5-9 V.5 - "Fine Flour".
- a product of the earth.
- refined, no impurities. God gets to the finest details of our
lives and refines us through the 'crushing' experience of His
dealings.
"and bake 12 loaves".
- 12 loaves representing all 12 tribes - the whole Body of
Christ. The Table of Shewbread is prophetic of the Body of
Christ. 1 Cor. 10:16. The processes the bread went through can
be applied to us today as members of that one Loaf.
- 12 the number of structure, authority and order.
Today we find that God is restoring the whole Body of Christ to
full Apostolic (12 Apostles) authority and order. But this can
only happen as the whole Body submits to the processes of
preparation - to be refined, kneaded together and submitted to the
fiery trials of the baker's oven. Isa.48:10.
Ark and Table the same height - before the Church can enter the
Holy of Holies and experience the Shekinah Glory, measuring up to
"the stature of the fulness of Christ" - it is to measure up and
find the same stature first in the Table of Shewbread. The word
(the bread) is to be made flesh. John 1:14.
The Glory to be revealed in the Church is dependent on
(i) the return of Apostolic authority (ii) unity - the refining
of the flour, resulting in one Loaf.
V.7. "Pure frankincense".
It is in the processed and baked loaf that the flavour of the
Holy Spirit is found.
- "Bread of His Presence".
